Okay, dude/chick – …
Okay, dude/chick – you have to understand that at the time the lyrics were made, Peart was heavily into Rand. He has since, however, disavowed her philosophy. We were all enamored with Rand at one time or another, particularly when we were all 15 and we thought the world revolved around us. Those of us who have grown an matured, like Peart, have realized that this is a dead-end philosophy. That being said, the music still rocks!

LOL. These guys …
LOL. These guys dedicated an album to Ayn Rand. The song 2112 is practically a cover of Ayn Rand’s book “Anthem.” And you think there is no message here, and its just about a comic strip? Have you listened to any of their other songs? I get that folks may not like the libertarian message, but jeez if I chose songs based only on agreeing with the band’s politics I would have an empty iPod

“Neil Peart has remarked that the inspiration for penning the song simply came from a humorous comic strip he read which depicted trees arguing like people.” There you go, we can stop now…

I didn’t think Geddy ever played anything other than his Jazz bass. Funny to see him playing a Rickenbacker.

They have that …
They have that orchestral rock sound here, heavily accented by Lifesons dynamic guitar style. A serious and fun tune from one of Rocks most creative forces.

they aren’t really …
they aren’t really talking about racism. They are referring to socialists taking what is not theirs. They are huge into Ayn Rands philosophies and capitalism and freedom. Many of their songs touch on objectivism.
