    ok well the first …
ok well the first technique youre talking about involves useing a displacement modefire which only allows you to change the vertexs highs across one axis… unless you have created a normal map which would require you to model the entire thing beforehand completely defeating the perpous. and the secound way you mention is exactly what i said accept useing multires instead of just subdividing the mesh strait off… this technique gives you a quick randomly generated terrain that you can then edit

    You do know that …
You do know that there are other 2 easier ways to draw nicer terrain?
    1. requires to have a 2D drawer where you make black noise on white paper, the more black it is the higher the terrain will be.
    2. is a special tool in blender in wich you start dividing, however with this tool when you move a point, every other point moves with it in order to look hilly and not go straight up

How do we apply the colors to this? I tried using the texture paint mode, but whenever I choose a color, I can’t seem to be able to apply it to any of the objects/textures.

    when I’m making …
when I’m making landscape, I like going form the ground up. I usually just add multires and make the landscape with different brushes in sculpt mode. It gives you more control (in my opinion)

  15. hamsterhill Says:

    well you can always …
well you can always just actually model what you want… instead of useing something like this just extrude out faces and move bits around lik you would when modeling other stuff.

Very nice tutorial. I wish I had this a few years ago. I created a landscape in a few or my videos using a digital elevation model to affect the shape of the subdivided plane. I would have love to use the sculpting tools to shape it a bit better.

What did you use for your screen capture?

hm ok is there a way that i can get a terrain like that but with a low poly count? like what if im working with the game engine? that would be a real hassle to have that many polys.
